Val Kilmer’s Pick: V-Day

April 30, 2012 by boomerstyle in Charity with 1 Comment

Val Kilmer loves V-day because it is a charity devoted to stopping violence against women, increase awareness, and help to raise money for these causes.

Eve Ensler and I are friends, she has used her talent lovingly and humorously to communicate horrific actions against women and girls; to prevent them from happening again. She is a true American hero and her efforts need support. God Bless.”

Global Movement to Stop Violence against Women

Shelli Carlisle

One of Val Kilmer’s favorite charitable organizations is a global movement to stop violence against women. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation and sexual slavery.

The Vagina Monologues

Through V-Day campaigns, local volunteers and college students produce annual benefit performances of ‘The Vagina Monologues’ to raise awareness and funds for anti-violence groups within their own communities. In 2008, over 3700 V-Day benefit events will take place. All produced by volunteer activists in the U.S. and around the world, educating millions of people about the reality of violence against women and girls.

If you have not seen ‘Vagina Monologues’ do treat yourself to the experience.  Poignant, funny, tear jerker, shock, surprise…name a few of the emotions you will go through during the performance.

Cindi Daigle, intake director of the adolescent’s treatment center

R House, Inc., said, “It was good to be in an environment that talks about a subject that can be very uncomfortable for some.  And, it was fun to be involved in a sisterhood where we could all laugh together.”

Eve Ensler

Ensler wrote the global theater phenomenon, ‘The Vagina Monologues,’ after interviewing 200 women about their bodies.

It’s success propelled her to found V-Day, the worldwide movement to end violence against women and girls.

Ensler recently received the prestigious “Medaille de Vermeil de la Ville de Paris” in honor of her extraordinary and diligent work.
