There's something about the Lord's palette to inspire decorating your home for fall by Janet Adrian-Hink.Orange is a fabulous color for fall decor and very hot right now.“I remember when I first came out on tour, it was Greg Norman and Nick Price. We forget how big Norman was, what a presence he was. I remember one of my first tournaments, Greg threw an orange peel down on the ground and some fan ran over and grabbed it. ‘This is Greg Norman’s orange peel!'” ~Phil Mickelson

Indian corn is a beautiful way to bring the outdoors inside for autumn decorating.Red, gold and bronze falling leaves; orange pumpkins, paprika berries, purple, yellow and indigo Indian corn…the colors autumn brings are the colors to introduce to our interiors during this gorgeous fall season. Adding  these colors to our homes surround us with inviting warmth.

Color is one of the most important elements in interior design.  The current color trend is orange. The color orange has held a prominent place in the history of color. In England, during the Elizabethan Era, only the royal elite were permitted to wear this luxurious hue. While in ancient Buddhism orange represented the strength, dignity and wisdom of Buddha.

Orange wool rugs are excellent way to add color to warm up your home.In the words of Frank Sinatra who said it well, “Orange is the happiest color.”

Make a Statement or Be Understated

Orange’s energy mixes well in both traditional and modern spaces.

It can be used as an accent or fill a room with a bold statement. For this autumn season we will look at richer, warmer hues of orange.

Velvets, damasks and tapestries on pillows and throws embellished with bouillon and fringe cozy up an area. Mix fabric patterns and textures for added interest. Accessorize the coffee table with a large wooden bowl filled with acorns and dried bittersweet. Hang large Terracotta tassels to the lamp switches and/or furniture knobs.

Add a large painted bowl to your dining room table. You can leave the bowl empty or fill it with candles of varying heights in berry and spice colors. Drape the table Beautiful tassels are excellent for hanging on drawer pulls, mirrors, door handles for a rich pop of color.with more than one tablecloth, go floor length with an angled overlay. Or lay the clothes vertically in coordinating fabrics.

An inexpensive design accessory to update a room is a wool area rug with the rich autumn hues. Coordinate rugs in rooms next to each other by using the largest size in the largest pattern, then banded rugs with some of the same colorings pulled out of the pattern rug. Add cozy throws on the sofa in paprika.

Bring the Outside In

Remember to bring some of falls colors and scents indoors.

One of my personal favorites–love to fill up some of my accent bowls with gourds, Indian corn and berries. Also bringing in herbs from the garden and putting them in pots for my garden window. Not only do they warm up the home and make us feel like royalty, they add a wonderful scent to the kitchen, as well.
