Beautiful Autumn in Duluth, Minnesota

Text and Photographs By Joan Rhodes
Beautiful Fall Days
Each year we plan a day of leaf watching and Samantha, my granddaughter, chose our destination. It was a trip to Duluth. The trees were in peak show, I think it was one of the most vibrant colors we have seen in years and years. We went to the park on Lake Superior and the big coast guard station, walked around, took the Duluth Scenic High Point Road. In your planning, remember it gets dark early now.
Road Trip Details

The best drive for gorgeous foliage vistas are just north of Duluth on Highway 61, North Shore Drive, which is about a mile north of Duluth. The creek and yellow foliage are on Skyline Drive, which goes on the high road right above the city of Duluth. Skyline Drive runs along the high points overlooking the Lake and City

Keep Your Eyes Out You Never Know

Within the city, but almost a remote area, one time years ago, we saw a bear on the Skyline Drive–and it was right in the city of Duluth. The colors this year were magnificent, they were so brilliant, the nicest color we have seen in years. I thought the one with my granddaughter, Sam, with the waves splashing up behind her and the ship going behind her was cool.  She was on boulders that were quite high above the water.  The waves were so big they clearly smashed at the boulders edge.
