Skin So Soft

It’s More than Skin Deep

Jan Faris

Avon has carried a product called Skin So Soft (SSS) for over 35 years. A staple in many households, it’s America’s number one bath oil or after shower moisturizer. Its special emollients instantly boost the skin’s moisture and prevent dryness.

Since the introduction of SSS, many of Avon’s customers have come up with some pretty ingenious ways to use the stuff. Twenty years ago someone discovered that it could be used to repel mosquitoes. Rubbing a light layer on skin and spraying around picnic tables by the grills works wonders for barbecues. Since then, Avon developed a line of bug sprays called SSS Bug Guard, which includes one with a sunblock that is child safe—it contains no DEET, whatsoever.

Skin So Soft can also be used for makeup removal, for hot oil treatments to soften cuticles, and is great as a massage oil. Just heat a bit in the microwave. It can remove crayon from most surfaces, and deodorize nasty pet odors. It can remove tar spots from a car without damaging the paint, clean the vinyl surfaces inside and eliminate smoke odors. *

It has been touted that Avon Skin So Soft has 101 uses besides keeping your skin silky soft.  The following is a sampling of other uses that personally found interesting.  Enjoy…

Personal Uses

  1. Relieves itching caused by dry winter skin or insect bites.
  2. Rub into dry cracked skin…helps heal within two to three days.
  3. Remove chewing gum and paint from hair, skin, and most non-pourous surfaces.
  4. On clean, dry hair use a dime size of SSS and your hair will be soft and shiny.

Household Uses

  1. Sponge it around doors, windows, and on screens to keep out crawling bugs.  It kills spiders, too.
  2. Dissolve price tag and label adhesive from glass, metals, and most plastics.
  3. Remove gum and candle wax from clothing, furniture, and carpets.
  4. Remove scuffmarks from patent leather shoes
  5. Cut grease and clean dirt from cabinets and range hoods.

Animal Uses

  1. Use as an insect repellent for your pet—as recommended in Outdoor Life and Field and Stream. Mix five parts of water, one part SSS and mist onto your animal’s coat. If you brush it in will make your animal’s fur gleam.
  2. Mix into your pet’s bath water to eradicate fleas and regularly spray to keep them off.
  3. Rub on your hands before and after working with your pets and farm animals to remove odor.
  4. Remove tar or asphalt from your dog’s feet by rubbing SSS onto its pads, and then wipe off with a warm moist soft towel.
  5. For Hummingbird feeders deter bees by rubbing SSS on the feeder surface by the feeder ports.

Automobile Uses

  1. Rub SSS on headlights and grill prior to traveling for easier removal of insects.
  2. Use to remove tree sap.
  3. Put on vehicle tires to keep them shining like new.
  4. Apply a little on a washcloth and keep in the car as an air freshener

Who would have thought that one product can be used for so many things. With the economy as it is today, this is a perfect way to save money.
